The annual AIS’s Americas Conference on Information Systems was in our own backyard this year, and the ITM Club wanted to be involved in any way we possibly could! Several members of the club helped out as student volunteers at the August 4-7 conference at the GM RenCen in Downtown Detroit, taking on a variety of tasks from working the registration desk to working with paper and poster sessions. The conference also gave club members the chance to attend the conference, sit in on paper sessions, attend social events, and network with other students and scholars from around the world! Our faculty advisor, Lise Urbaczewski was named the new Vice President of Student Chapters, and hosted a student chapter meet and greet at the conference on Thursday. The conference especially gave us a chance to network with schools and chapters in and around the Metro Detroit area, such as Oakland University, Wayne State University, and the University of Windsor. We are so grateful for this exciting experience the AIS has offered us and so very lucky to have the conference in our neighborhood this year! This is the 2nd AIS conference that club members have had the opportunity to attend this year, as several club members also attended AIS’s 2010 International Conference on Information Systems in St. Louis, MO in December.
